The story about 47 Samurais has a special significance for Japanese. It took place about 300 years ago and has so strongly come in the country’s culture that there are more than one hundred fine art works, plays and verses, devoted to this theme.

Every year Japanese recollect the Samurais’ feat at the event anniversary - on December, 14. The fancy-dress performances, telling a symbolical history of fidelity and humility, take place in the temple, where there are stone tombs of heroes.

According to the legend, a certain lord Kira, wishing death to his teacher Asano, angered him intentionally during that moment when they were in the temple. At last Аsano snatched a sword out. But it was considered as an awful blasphemy and should have been punished by a death penalty. Having realized a situation, Аsano made a hara-kiri.

But the drama history does not come to an end on it. Аsano had true servants, 47 Samurais. And namely they decided to punish the villain. With huge difficulty, they achieved their aim, having taken by storm the protected house of lord Kira - and brought the rascal’s head on their owner’s tomb. Then, of course, they also made to themselves a hara-kiri.

Japanese sincerely admire with this horrible history. There is a national holiday on December, 14 here. Hundreds and thousands of Japanese come in the temple to bow to tombs and to see the performance. The solemn procession of men in the traditional samurai suits, with the weapon in their hands goes along the Tokyo streets.
