Turkey forbids smoking in public places. |
On Friday the parliament of Turkey has passed the law on a full interdiction of smoking in public places. "Revolutionary" project, as it already been christened by the local mass-media, forbids smoking in places of entertainment, including café, restaurants, stadiums and all types of transport.
Besides, advertising of tobacco products will disappear, and won’t be shown in films, serials and musical clips.
For infringement of the law the penalty up to 4,3 thousand dollars is stipulated. Only for the stub thrown in the street or an empty cigarette pack you’ll be obliged to lay out 18 dollars.
Since 1997 in Turkey it is forbidden to smoke in the offices where work more than four persons, in the sports centers, in medical, educational and cultural establishments, and also in planes.
The Turkish legislators were motivated by the sad statistics to the of this new law: annually in the country with the population of 65 million people almost 160 thousand inhabitants die from the illnesses caused by smoking. About 40 % of the Turk in the age older than 15 smoke, according to the official data. Turkey consumes nearby 17 million packs of cigarettes per day.
The bill will be directed for the confirmation to the president, and after his approval will come into force from the moment of the publication in governmental "The Official newspaper". |
