Doctors Ask Tourists to Wash Their Hands More Frequently |
Scientists have identified the “tourist disease” and named it “the dirty hands disease”. It is the main reason of travelers’ appeals to doctors after acute respiratory and skin diseases.
According to the study carried out by the specialists if the “Mondial Assistance Group” company insuring tourists all over the world, approximately 5% of travelers have to visit doctors with various complaints during their tourist journeys or immediately after returning from foreign voyages. Half of them become victims of common nonobservance of elementary hygienic rules and have to cure acute intestinal diseases, accompanied by diarrhea. In 5% of cases a visit to a doctor results hospitalization and the need of several days of hospital treatment.
Lethal outcomes during the journeys are as a rule connected with acute cardiovascular diseases or injuries caused in transport accidents. On the whole, according to the company, the death rate during the holiday makes up one per 100 thousand and one per 10 thousand during the journey itself. Therefore representatives of insurance companies ask those people who suffer from chronic diseases to pay attention to the more careful planning of their travel routes and choose regions they want to visit with more responsibility.
Thus, approximately one fourth of lethal outcomes during the journeys are connected with transport accidents. And only 1-3% of tourists catch serious infectious diseases while visiting exotic countries.
