Thousands of the citizens of Rio-de-Janeiro came out for the voluntary general cleaning of the city beaches, where a huge amount of various garbage has been gathered. The event has been initiated by the social organization, occupied with sea ecosystems.
The main events have taken place on the Copacabana quay on the popular among the tourist beach Ipanema and other parts of the wester Rio: Barra da Tijuca and Prajna. The volunteer have filtered the beach sand through special devices, extracting various garbage: cigarette filters, bottle corks, can rings and others. As a rule, the visitors bury there in the sand, therefore all that cannot be cleaned by the daily efforts of the municipal employees. The participants of the even have given the visitors plastic bags for garbage collection explaining to those who wanted to listen - the importance of the cleanness of the beaches.
The initiative that has been held under the motto "Thank you, beach" has been supported also at the other parts of the Brazilian coast: from the Natal in the top north-east of the country - to the Florianopolis in the south. |
