In the western fjords of Iceland tours that include whales observation will become regular. Only 3% of the foreign tourists got to the western shore of Iceland in the past year. According to the opinion of the local authorities, the opportunity to watch whales in any time of the year will attract more tourists to this region.

Whales become the visit card of Iceland. According to the Icelandic Whale Watching Association, this tour has been ordered by 104 thousands of tourists in 2007, when in the year 1991 there were not more than 100 of such volunteers.

In March in the Icelandic town Selfoss a conference has been held, welcoming participants of all countries where whales can be observed by the tourists. In particular, their wish to develop this kind of tourism have already expressed Scotland and countries of South America. The interest to these sea animals will contribute to the coastal infrastructure, being often in a miserable state, because to watch the whales - the tourists often have to travel to the distant shores and small fisherman villages and get into the sea from there.
