High prices in a hotel don’t necessarily imply a good service, as the journalists of Fox, the American television company, have found out. “We want to show you that however much you pay for a room you will like to bring your own glass” – say the journalists. A group of journalists that pretended to be ordinary travelers has found out, what chambermaids do in the rooms of luxurious hotels, with the help of the hidden cameras. Several glasses in each of the rooms, where the journalists stayed, were intentionally stained with sticky lemonade and lipstick for the experiment purposes.
One of the most “innocent” faults of the chambermaids in the hotels became the fact that actually they simply rinsed the glasses without washing them. The chambermaid processed the washbasin with a special cleaning fluid, on which “Do not drink” was written with large letters, in one of the hotels, and the splashes of this chemical, which is hazardous to health, got on the glasses that stood nearby. The chambermaid washed the glasses with hands in the same gloves, in which she just cleaned the toilet sink, in another hotel. The specialists, to whom the record that had been made with the help of the hidden cameras was demonstrated, were horrified: the glasses look clean, but they are hazardous to health – as the bacteria and the viruses that usually dwell in a toilet sink are on them. A guest of the hotel risks being infected with staphylococcus, salmonellae, herpes or hepatitis while using such a glass.
After that an identical supervision over the chambermaids was carried out in the hotels of the middle price bracket in order to find out whether they perform their work better than their colleagues from the costly hotels. Three hidden cameras were installed in every room, where the dirty glasses were left. The observers have received evidence in one of the four-star hotels that the chambermaid dries the washed glasses with dirty towels thrown on the floor by the guests while preparing the room for the next guests. Such an “interchange of microbes” may be very dangerous, as the medic professionals think.
“Most of these procedures are unacceptable”, - said the representative of the Department of Public Health of the district, where the journalist investigation was carried out. According to the journalists, the glasses were bare of soap or hot water for years in the rooms of some hotels. And thousands of guests, whose health ran a serious risk of infections, used these glasses. The glasses were taken for the analysis and the variety of the microbes that were found on them after the “wash” plunge the journalists into shock. The subject concerning this investigation was transmitted on Fox TV channel and evoked a storm of responses of the audience. The Department of Public Health ordered all the hotels, where the investigation was carried out, to wash glasses “properly”. There is nothing else left to do but to hope that chambermaids will obey the officials.
