The law that prohibits smoking in France, coming into force on the January, 1st, 2008, can concern not only institutions of public catering, but also popular hookah-bars. Owners of "shisha-bars" are revolted: only smoking people visit them and, thus, the smoke can disturb nobody. Nevertheless in some weeks hookah-bars should be altered according to the prohibition: it is necessary to allocate a special zone for smoking which cannot occupy more than the fifth part of the whole institution.
Not only the owners of the Arabian bars protest, but also " tobacco cafes " where visitors come especially to drink some coffee and try the refined sorts of tobacco. But the government remains uncompromising: it has rejected the offer to set the institutions selling tobacco, and cafes with the area less than 100 square meters free from the prohibition. Most likely, the French will not be delighted with the introduction of the law: it is well known that France is the most smoking European country. |
