Crossing the streets of Dubai beyond the arranged pedestrian crossings shall be fined with 500 dirhams (approximately 136 dollars). Pedestrians who violate the rules of crossing the street may be imprisoned for the period of up to one month.

The new rules of crossing the streets in Dubai shall come into effect the next February. They cover all city highways where the permitted traffic speed is over 80 km/h.

Amendments of the local legislation providing the new punitive sanctions for pedestrians have been announced by brigadier general Mohammed Az-Zafin, the head of the Main Road Traffic Department.

Amendments do not provide increase in penalties for other traffic violations. They cover inner roads in free areas, including the district of Jebel Ali, territories of ports and the airport.
