Last month of the year is a long-awaited time not only for children. The most popular events of December in Netherlands are loved by Dutch of all ages, and for the sake of some of them the tourists from abroad come to the country. In December in Holland will take pace: the Holiday of candles, the Winter festival in the entertainments park Efteling, the Dickens's festival, the Christmas enchanting spectacle in the palace Het Loo and also the ubiquitous circus performances, celebratory fairs and musical festivals.

The annual Holiday of candles will begin on Tuesday, the 11-th of December, in the medieval city Gouda, and it will be celebrated already the 52-nd time. It is possible to reach quickly to the holiday by train from Amsterdam or Hague. It is not difficult to imagine that you live in the Middle Ages when thousand candles are lit up on the main city square. The event lasts the whole day, the celebratory markets and concert platforms are arranged in the city centre, and a bewitching ceremony of the Christmas tree illumination and dances are prepared for the visitors in the evening.

The entertainments park Efteling will be opened during the vacation period from December, 22 till January, 6. The park Efteling invites visitors to spend the unforgettable cheerful hours at Christmas and New Year. The special winter attractions, a huge skating-rink, a museum, a fantastic wood, a gallery of games are opened in the 55-years old park. Also the hotels, a bungalow and cafes are open next to it. The Dickens's festival in Deventer will remind the 19-th century city of the English writer Charles Dickens. The peculiar carnival becomes the holiday zest on days off - December, 15 and 16. 750 books heroes of the great writer will go along the city streets. Every year more than 100 000 guests visit this festival. The entrance to this event is free-of-charge. The holiday will occupy the center of the whole city in which all the shops, galleries and cafes will be open.

Christmas in the palace Het Loo will take place from December, 18 till January, 6 in the royal palace of the same name. The palace itself will look extraordinary as the set of garlands and flowers will change it to the better. The trees will be wrapped up with a beautiful brocade cloth, decorated with crystals, silver candelabra and colorful fruits. Annually the Christmas palace decoration attracts thousands of curious visitors.
